A New Favorite Faker of Mine

Guys, I hate the people who create and sell fake patches and do it well enough that the casual collector couldn’t tell the difference. I LOVE the ones who are terrible at it, mainly because it gives me a good laugh. Some of the people who do it are so bad that I would laugh at anyone who buys their stories of it being “pack pulled by a friend.”

Every once in a while, a new faker enters the fold that takes the above hilarity to a new level. These people use patches that were never on jerseys, world series patches from years that the card’s subjects never played in, or even just cuts a patch in half and uses half on one card and half on another selling at the same time.. Its almost a game for me, and it has really become a hobby within a hobby.

Some may criticize saying that I don’t have proof with before and after pics, but some are so obvious, that any bidders would need to be committed if they thought it was real after seeing the card posted.

Donut13666 is a great example of this, check out some of his wonderful pieces of created card art:

Jeff Bagwell/Adam Dunn Fleer Dual Logo Patch – This is why you don’t buy pre-bankruptcy fleer cards.

Randy Johnson Certified Logo Patch

Alex Rodriguez League Anniversary Logo Patch – This is one of my favorite patches to see in cards, mainly because it sets off so many red flags for so many people.

Torii Hunter Ultimate Twins Logo Patch

Schilling/Willis/Wood Triple Logo Patch – More old fleer junk.

Pedro Martinez Red Sox Logo Patch – I absolutely love his player choice.

John Buck Jumbo Logo Patch – Again, love the player choice, and you have to love his balls choosing the most faked set of all time.

Kevin Millwood Jumbo Logo Patch – Who could resist this card?!?

Clemens/Johnson/Schilling Logo Patch – More old fleer, he must have busted CASES of this stuff.

Dunn/Berkman Dual Logo Patch – A little late to cash in on the ALCS no?

Dwayne Wade Logo Patch – MULTI SPORT LOGOS! Awesomez!!!11!

Basically people, if you cant watch your own ass, no one is going to do it for you. Don’t be stupid, and ALWAYS check the other items they have up for sale. It would have saved these people a ton of cash.

  1. The Classic Clippings are so fake Its embarrassing. That release was notorious for single white swatches.

    Good call..

  2. Your posts would be so much more helpful if you stated WHY the patches set off alarms for you. I totally believe you when you say a card is faked, but being new to this your site would be so much more informative if you gave more info about what tells you a card is fake than just saying “This is why you don’t buy pre-bankruptcy fleer cards” or “This is one of my favorite patches to see in cards, mainly because it sets off so many red flags for so many people”.

What flags does it set off? I’m new to this and I just don’t know yet. Please be more descriptive about WHY a card is bunk if at all possible so newbies like me learn a thing or two and can start to see these from a mile away too…
    thanks

  3. That’s a lazy answer. Why not be a bit more specific with your specific call outs? Explain the “red flag” in a sentence….is that asking too much?

  4. It is pretty sad to see that there are 2 bidders that bid on both the Dave Parker and Willie Stargell patches. A few minutes research and they should have realized that the 2 patches are from the same full sized original patch.

  5. Please tell me that is what I think it is, and that he actually fucking bent the D-Wade card plugging that logo patch in there.

  6. Okay, sure. In each of the fleer cards, many of the cards were purchased after the company was bankrupt without swatches in the windows. Therefore, people just bought aftermarket patches and cut them up to glue into the cards. If there were swatches there, they just removed them easily and put them into the card. Because these cards are not only fleer cards from 2004 and before, and they feature premium swatches in sets that dont offer premium swatches, the red flags go up. This is the same for every card I mentioned, mainly because the logos are perfectly centered, dont feature any jersey around the patch, and are easily recognizable because of all of the other cards he is selling.

I would love to do this every time I discuss fakes, but it isnt as simple as one sentence. Hope this helps!

  7. I love your posts on fakers, there is a guy selling topps “plates” right now that I think are fake, if you get a chance check that seller out and give me your opinion.

  8. Way to go Gellman. I love it when you call these Dumb Asses out. I’m happy someone got balls.

  9. Thank you, now that is helpful information I can use when I look at your posts and cards on the ‘bay!!!
