Five Star Inscription Cards Are Hotter Than Texas in Summer

We just got our first taste of 2011 Topps Five Star football, which didnt dissapoint. One of the aspects of the set that everyone is waiting with extreme excitement over is the now infamous inscriptions cards of the Quotable subsets. Topps recently confirmed with me that they would be back for a sophomore year, something that many people, including myself, will be very happy about.

Last year’s set is already one of the hottest sets to build currently, and value is only going up exponentially as the rare ones get eaten up by builders. I paid an astronomical amount for the Peterson when Five Star first came out, and it is by far my favorite that I own. After seeing some of the prices on eBay, I dont think I am alone in trying to track down my favorite player.

Check out some of these ridiculous sales and ones for sale:

Jim Brown Quotable Inscription “3 Time NFL MVP”

Matt Ryan Quotable Inscription “Matty Ice”

Sam Bradford Quotable Inscription “Dream Big!” – HUGE price. Huge.

Tim Tebow Quotable Inscription “John 3:16”

Peyton Manning Quotable Inscription “4 Time NFL MVP” – Biggest price yet.

Personally, I think these cards are the best of 2010 by far, and are serious contenders for card of the last five years – if not more. Upper Deck may have been the first to get players to write about themselves on a card, but these inscriptions are so much more well thought out. Funny enough, even the crappy players sell for almost 100 bucks, which almost guarantees a fourth of the box price back if you pull one. That is nuts.

After seeing how much the design improved on this year’s Five Star offering, I cant imagine how cool these cards will be. Hopefully the inscriptions also get taken up a notch, as last year’s “Welcome To Revis Island” and the like, were absolutely crazy awesome.

Here’s to hoping…

  2. I absolutely love my “Welcome to Revis Island” inscription. Worth every penny of the $180 (a steal I believe) I paid for it.
