Topps Five Star Football FINALLY Gives Us What We Want!

Ladies and gentlemen. Its been 4 long years since the last time Topps ventured into super high end box territory, and to be honest, the last time was a crime against the hobby. After seeing these images that were recently sent out for Topps Five Star Football, we are FINALLY getting everything people want from an Exquisite style Topps product.

First, we get an entire product of ON CARD Signatures. Hale-fucking-lujah. No more gaudy, bordered, eye burning sticker designs that force you to acknowledge the fact that the card isnt signed directly by the player. No more covering up the subject of the card because they have to fit the sticker into a special area. ALL ON CARD, ALL THE TIME. FUCK and YES.

Secondly, we are going to get our first and only dose of hard signed veteran signatures for the entire 2010 season, which makes me so happy I cant even tell you. Ever since  Upper Deck left, I was very afraid we would never have anything close to what Exquisite, Ultimate and SPA brought to the table each year. This set wont be what Exquisite was, but I have a feeling its going to be damn close. Better than the 400 dollar box of threads that Panini will put out around this same time.

You know what the greatest thing about all of this? These cards look balls out awesome. Its like someone with a clue finally penetrated the inner circle of the Topps design team, and this is the first product with their influence. I have been saying all along that someone needs to wake the hell up over there in Duryea, and I am beyond excited that it finally happened with a product like this.

Lastly, im not a fan of Booklet cards, but ill let it slide because they are going to be done the way they should be done in every product. There looks to be a lot that Topps is going to pack into this product, and with rookies like Mardy Gilyard and Marcus Easley populating this class, they are going to need it in order to deliver what people are expecting.

CHECK OUT THESE BEASTS.

  1. If you would have not told me that this was a topps product, I would have for sure thought it was a upper deck product…looks damn good!

  2. These cards look great. Finally, a good high end card set from topps. I will definitely try to get some of the single cards on ebay.

  4. Heard a rumor that Topps hired one of Upper Deck’s designers to design their football products. Best move they could have made, now they should get someone to build their products.

  5. This is the best looking high-end Topps product I’ve seen since I got back in to the hobby 3 years ago. Three cheers for Topps using on-card autos. I’m very interested to see how the boxes pack out and what the price is.

  6. @bahdankadank.. I posted a joke about them hiring a former UD designer as a reply on here a couple weeks ago. If they did, it shows.

I’ll believe this when I see it. Good lord, I hope this is a real product.

    1. Not April Fools… check.
    2. Real NFL players… check.
    3. On card autos… check…

Well, now, I hope they sent the sell sheet over to Panini world headquarters with a post-it attached that said “fuck you guys” on it.

  7. Depends who “us” is….a more accurate statement would be “gives a subset of collectors that is overwhelmingly focused on jersey swatches and autographs” what they want.

For the many collectors who couldn’t give a hoot about jersey swatches and autographed cards this product is probably pretty uninteresting.
