2010 Panini Certified is Live, Living Up To Low Expectations

I have commented a few times over the last few days about what I think in terms of 2010 Certified’s potential in the coming days and weeks. Basically, I have hated this product ever since I started collecting football cards, mainly because of the terrible designs that this set is famous for. This year looks to be the worst of the worst, including the removal of the collector favorite 1/1 FULL NFL logo parallels of the veteran cards. That really says a lot about my feelings as past year’s products have produced cards like this abomination. My biggest complaint with this set, and Panini in general, is the way the cards are produced and organized. This set has been previewed to be exactly what we would expect in a typical 4/1/$90 dollar product from Panini, especially just from the sheer number of backwards designed parallels that look to be everywhere in Certified this year.

Some cards have looked to pop up earlier than expected, and although no autos have been posted, the cards look to be hitting the target right at where I had it set. Many of the jersey cards are completely unimpressive, as usual, and floating swatches and eye burning foil are infecting this set like a virus.

Here is what has been posted so far, more will be posted as I can get to them:

Ryan Mathews Freshman Fabric Redemption – Someone recently posted on blowout that they received 14 fucking redemptions in their case. FOURTEEN. That is a complete fail, especially when so many of these rookies were at the premiere.

Jimmy Clausen Freshman Fabric Triple Jersey Auto – I cant say enough horrible things about this card. Aside from the foil, the goofy picture, and the swatch of event used football, the sticker looks barely visable. Who the fuck thought these cards look good?

Gerald McCoy Patch /50 – This card looks like someone shot a bullet through it and they put a patch underneath it. Floating swatch city.

Ryan Mathews Certified Potential Insert – The one thing I like about this card is the updated game photo. We need more of this in later sets.

Sam Bradford FOTG Jersey – These cards used to be awesome, now they might as well be the twin of 2009. Seriously, the only difference in this card is the move of the player to the other side of the card. I cant stand when the companies dont update a set year to year. Laziness. Pure laziness.

Peyton Manning Patch /50 – One of the five million parallels, no joke. This one could have been cool if they let the full game photo stand, but instead they chose to put those stupid and hideous lines to break it up.

Ryan Mathews FOTG Jersey /25 – This is one of five million parallels of this set, however, this is the one that the design is built around, so it works better than any of the others. See how the die cut fits into the lines? Thats why Panini has designers that think backwards. Rather than updating each parallel to match the swatch, they just cut into a design that doesnt match. Love the word logos, but this is one positive in plethora of design clusterfucks.

Brett Favre Gold Team Jersey Parallel /125 – More floating swatches, oddly shaped this time, embedded into one of the worst cards I have ever seen.

This is only the first batch, more will definitely show tomorrow. Check back, and hopefully someone will have posted some of the bigger pulls.
