Topps’ first non-draft focused product is still a month away, but today we are getting a first look at 2011 Rising Rookies as it hits eBay. I have not been a fan of many parts of this set, especially because of the forced airbrushing of any logos or NCAA related jerseys and helmets has left us with some odd looking cards here.

Basically, like Prestige’s awful representation of the 2011 rookie class, Rising Rookies is having to take a completely odd approach to including the money players in a way that doesnt infringe on Upper Deck’s exclusive NCAA license. As a result, the cards are not even close to where they should be, and we are left with the cards you see below.

Topps did at least include some cool looking cards of last year’s rookie class as we see below, and unlike Prestige, the jersey parallels of the cards dont look all that bad. They have a cool design theme to them, and from what we saw in the previews, there are some AWESOME jumbo patch autos that I cant wait to see.

Prince Amukamara Draft Patch On Card Auto – Not a fan of this picture at all, that should not have made it onto the card.

Niles Paul Draft Patch On Card Auto

Jimmy Clausen Sophomore Class 3 Color Patch – These cards look pretty good for a patch card these days.

Cam Newton Base Rookie Card – Not a fan of this design or the photo.

Shane Vereen On Card Draft Non-Patch Auto – When you compare these cards to Prestige’s equivalent, I think these are THAT much better. I dont think they are great, but much better than the other options available.
