Cam Newton 1/1 2011 Elite Auto Already Pulled and Posted

As if the look, content, and design of 2011 Elite werent bad enough to drive the price down to epic lows, the posting of the 1/1 Cam Newton autograph wont do it any favors. The card was posted on eBay yesterday with an ASTRONOMICAL price, and much like the seller describes, this is THE card of the product. Elite has suffered some major set backs in price because of how terrible the cards look compared to previous years, but this could be the one card that doesnt get affected by the downturn.

In fact, this is one of the only 1/1 cards that have been posted so far, as most of the 1/1s posted have been the terrible printing plate autographs that are new this year. Yes, in addition to owning the actual disgusting looking cards from this set, you can own the worse looking plates used to birth these demons from the factory. Wonderful. Sign me up.

Here are the others so far:

Vincent Brown Status Auto 1/1

Tyler Sash Status Auto 1/1

Peyton Manning Status Auto 1/1 – The ONLY reasonably good looking card subset in this entire product. Cool inscription.

The Newton will most likely sell for around 1000 dollars, but that will definitely drop as better looking chase cards are released. Panini would love no more than for Elite to stay at 95 bucks a box, but with Prestige already below 60 bucks a box on eBay, things are not looking good this product’s chances. For the first time ever, the presence of a terrible design and awful pictures has dropped the secondary market selling point of a set, something that has rarely ever affected things before.

With Topps ramping up with amazing looking products one after the other, Panini had better get off their ass and start looking for ways to win back the people they lost during this release.

  1. If they would like their products to ‘stay at $95 a box’ they need to put more than $9.50 worth of actual content in them. Maybe get rid of people paid to break boxes and video them and let actual collectors do it? Who knows… put another $40k+ of NFL star autos in the next product.

    Nah. That’d make sense…

  2. Well im the one who pulled the Newton yesterday, and besides that 1/1 I did pretty good with the other boxes. Pulled 3 Throwback Thread Booklets (Vick/Cunningham…..Emmitt/Dickerson…..Emmitt/Dickerson Auto). Those are awesome. But other than that i kept getting the same RC Autos over and over, and some of the players I pulled patches and autograph patches of really have no reason to be in a subset lol. Ive had offers over $1k already, but want to see what happens before selling it.

  3. Wow, nice job on that pull. I think I would definitely get as much as you can for it now before the season starts.

  4. don’t you think the lockout has at least SOMETHING to do with the low prices of boxes and singles? Once topps actually releases a product I guess we will see.

  5. any time an autogrphed card has the auto over the players nuts, the card is a fail

  6. I agree on the additional pulls along with the Newton 1/1. Not taking anything away from your box break, but 2011 Elite looks awful, even the Newton 1/1 looks awful, look where they put the 1/1 at, it took me a while just to find it. But Gellman is correct, Topps is gearing up and a Topps Newton Platinum or Rookie Premiere Auto, or the real Holly Grail, the 2011 Topps Chrome Superfractor Auto 1/1 of Cam Newton. Personally, I would invest in the 2011 Peyton Manning Elite Auto with “SB MVP”. Cam Newton and JaMarcus Russell have too much in common, aside from the #2 they both wore while playing in the SEC. If the NFL reaches a CBA and Lockout is lifted with no Rookie Sal;ary Cap, then Newton will command a lot of $$$ up front. However, if a Rookie salary cap is in place with the new CBA Newton could actually be forced to play hard, come to work everyday, and hits the film room knowing that Clausen already has one year under his belt, Newton just might turn out fine.

If you look really hard at the 2008 QB draft class, you have Matt Ryan, and Joe Flacco, throw in 2nd rounders Chad Henne and Brian Brohm. Both Ryan and Flacco were and still are solid investments, in terms of purchasing the right rookie card. Henne had some promise going into the 2010 season and still has room to improve and possibly reach his potential. Brian Brohm investors are now quickly selling for Matt Flynn. For a short moment in 2009 Trent Edwards looked to be that guy in Buffalo as both Quinn and Russell were not panning out as planned. Fast forward to 2011 and all 3 are either not playing or barried at 3rd string on the depth charts.

Now let’s look at the 2009 QB draft class, by far Josh Freemean has been the toast of that draft and with free agent cast off LeGarret Blount, Mike Williams, and Kellen Winslow Jr. Freeman is my bet to get to the playoffs before Sanchez or Stafford, pending if Stafford can stay healthy. Sanchez is helped along by the Jets rediculous D. Sanchez’s numbers aren’t exactly eye-popping but does just enough to get the W by not making too many mistakes. I am hoping Stafford can stay healthy enough in 2011 because he is now surrounded by talented skill position players, like, Jhavid Best, Kevin Smith, and 2nd round rookie Mikel Leshoure, who at 6’0 230lbs could be that power back that compliments Jhavid Best’s speed. Plus not to mention, arguably, the best pick in the 2007 draft Calvin johnson, aka, Megatron. Plus, now the Lions Defense is getting much more better through the draft with the likes of Suh and the addition of Nick Fairley could be a dominant duo at DL, much like Marcus Stroud (6″6 310lbs) and John Henderson (6’7 335lbs) were for the Jags from 2002-2009. So Stafford can now have an opportunity to help lead the 6-10 Lions to the playoffs.

Sorry Gellman, I love All Day #28 AP, but Johnson has been with the improving, post Matt Millen era Lions and AP has been with a strong and highly respectible franchise in the Vikes but both are worth investing your money on.

Personally, and this is just me, I prefere solid veteran Superstar Auto’s than taking a chance with my hard earned $1,000 on an unproven 1st overall rookie pick each year. It’s just people getting all caught up in the hype. Let’s go back 15 years or so and E-Bay is just as strong as it is now, same companies, Panini, Topps, and for good reason, Upper Deck has an NFL License and Jeff George 1st 1/1 is posted, the hype that followed that draft pick, I am sure somebody was willing to throw down a few G’s to get that all mighty Holly Grail, or those who choose to invest in Ryan Leaf and not Peyton Manning and all along just ignoring The Freak Randy Moss. It’s a crap shoot with rookies, but that is what makes it fun, it’s gambling at its’ finest. I take the safe bet and go with a solid Veteran Superstar or a player from my favorite team the Broncos, and add a Calvin Johnson, Adrian Peterson, and Chris Johnson as those are my favorites to collect and add to my Personal Collection.

Overall I love pulling the 1/1 Auto’s or a solid low serial numbered Auto of the current years draft picks, just because they will sell for a lot of money and your PayPal account get’s bigger. In 2010 I pulled the Ryan Mathews Topps Chrome Superfractor 1/1 Auto, beautiful card, sold for $750, I also pulled an Adrian Peterson Game-Used Auto 53/75 that only went for $80, a 2010 Drew Brees Auto 1/5, that only went for $40 some bucks and this was right after he won the 2009 Super Bowl and was named MVP. So the 2011 rookie madness is in full effect now on E-Bay has the Cam Newton 1/1 Auto is up for grabs. I will wait until a CBA is in place and hopefully all 32 teams can have at least 6-8 weeks of Training Camp before I start looking at investing my money in this year’s crop of rookies. But good job on the pull and I hope you get what you want out of it, you bought the box you deserve it 🙂

  7. I cannot believe that the 2011 Elite Cam Newton Auto Rookie 1/1 went for $1,500, while the established and one of the NFL’s top QB’s of all time, 2011’s Elite Peyton Manning Auto went for $450???? I seriously don’t get it, why take such a huge risk on an unproven player. When for $405 you can have an autograph football card of Peyton Manning that is 1/1 a guy who has established the following in the NFL:
    5× First-team All-Pro selection
    4× AP NFL MVP (2003, 2004, 2008, 2009)
    6× AFC Player of the Year (1999, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2008, 2009)
    Pro Bowl MVP (2005)
    Super Bowl Champion (XLI)
    Super Bowl MVP (XLI)
Fastest ever to reach 50,000 yards passing
    Fastest to 1,000 completions
    Fastest to 2,000 completions
    Fastest to 3,000 completions
    Fastest to 4,000 completions
    NFL 2000s All-Decade Team

Not that Cam Newton has the potential to be a great NFL Player but isn’t the Carolina Panthers the place where QB’s go to Die? Aside from Kerry Collins and Steve Berline in the late 90’s, and one solid season from Jake Dellhome in 2004, Carolina Panthers aren’t exactly a QB friendly franchise. I am seriously mind boggled at this. I know each year everybody is taking a chance on the new rookie crop, looking for that Tom Brady special. I am lost, somebody please help explain to me why??? lol

  8. It didn’t sell for $1,500. I took it down early and listed it as a regular auction. Its at $400 with 4 days to go. I had almost 1,000 views when I was kickin the tires around, so i decided to just let it ride. A 2011 Peyton Manning shouldnt be more valuable than the top picks…i mean its like his 13th year of autographs. A Peyton Manning 1/1 Elite Auto from his rookie year if there was one would stump a mudhole in the 1/1 Newton. The value potential of this Newton has WAY more potential than a 2011 auto of any vet….if Manning breaks more records his rookies may go up, not his 12th year auto cards. Thats why people are willing to take a chance on a rare rookie card like this. If Newton has a Hall of Fame career than this card will be priceless. Where as a 12th year Manning will probably be valued the same years from now.
