The Super Bowl Brings Out The Best In Us All

Someone paid 72 dollars for this card. Why, im not sure. It may be the worst fake since the Eli Manning triple NFL logo/fake auto from a few months ago, and yet, someone still bought it. On top of the sticker being beyond terrible, its pretty dumb to put a laundry tag in a card labeled “game worn jersey.” In addition, the sitcker is in the wrong color pen, it looks nothing like Bush’s signature, and yet, it was enough to convince at least one person it was worth buying.

Not only that, but this card was scanned front AND back, and it is clearly labeled as a non-auto, non prime jersey card in BOTH scans. If that wasnt enough, it looks like it was done pretty poorly with the perfectly centered laundry tag. Too funny.
Either way, im sure this is the first of many awful cards to come after the end of the game, and I encourage you to be extra careful when going on a Saints or Colts buying spree once its over. A lot of people will be out to take your money, and thats where you need to watch your ass.
Have fun tonight, ill recap my highlights tomorrow.
EDIT: I guess it does say auto on the back in little letters, but there is no way that auto is real. Its the wrong color and things that dont change sig to sig are wrong. Look at the slant of the auto and the two beginning letters, they are wrong. Also, the way the B and the last stroke are connected are not similar to any other bush sig. Not to mention its all in the wrong color. This isnt real.

Taking Out The Trash: Fake Auto Edition

One of my new readers, George, passed this guy’s info to me, and I thought it was worth posting. Its not because the autos he is selling are obviously fake, its the stuff he chose to put them on. A few relevant Sports Illustrateds from the last few weeks, some old Becketts, some old base cards, it just looks that he was taking out his trash and decided to make some money the asshole way.

No one is really biting on any of these, but I just thought it was a hilarious attempt at fooling people. Maybe I can find some used toilet paper and see if I can sell a fake Jamarcus Russell Auto on it before I flush.

Im Telling You To Pull The Trigger On Your Patch Targets NOW

At this point, collectors are going to face a conundrum. It’s a big one, because it may cost a lot of money either way, and that may not be in the plans for some people. Here is the situation, mainly that with some of the ridiculous patches that have been featured in Ultimate Collection Baseball, National Treasures Football, the upcoming SPA football and Exquisite Football, there is no way to buy a patch after the main release and not have questions on authenticity. All of these cards will feature JUMBO swatches, and when I say JUMBO I mean huge and easy to fake. When you have swatches that big, and the populace is used to seeing amazing stuff, the assholes who fake cards are primed for a field day.

Now, don’t tell me they wont go after these cards because of the cost, because they will. People have faked at least 5-10 Peterson Exquisites, so there is nothing stopping them from dropping a grand if they think they can make money. Also, don’t tell me that Panini has their fucking kodak shit, because that does absolutely nothing until the card is already purchased and in your hands for over a month. Because of this, you will have to pay early and you will have to pay a little more because the products are new. Ill tell you, once the 1993 World Series patches start showing up in Ted Williams jumbo patch cards, you will see how good you feel about the one you bought.

Im not saying that having these amazing patches is a bad thing, it just causes some problems if you are buying off ebay six months after release or more (that one is 100% fake if you couldnt tell). After about six weeks, the scammers have let the card prices die down and start buying up the cards. After about 8 weeks, they have the fake patches in hand and are working on the cards all while vigorously licking their dog’s balls for entertainment (that’s what they do, im not kidding). At 10 weeks, the cards are up, and there is now blood in the water. At about 20 weeks, it becomes hard to tell which is real and which is fake. At that time, all the people who were waiting for the price to come down start buying again, and it puts a smile on all the dog ball filled mouths of the scammers.

If you know what to look for, im sure you can avoid having any problems. However, if you don’t, be sure to send out some feelers or at least sniff the cards for any hint of dog. Drop a line on a message board or send any blogger an email, including me. Id be happy to help you out.

How Long Before The Scams Look Perfect?

Its been close to six months since the fake rookie premiere autographs have swarmed the net, and I have to admit, its getting a little bit harder to tell which are fake and which are real. PSA has already taken to grading the fakes as real, which means that they A) cannot or will not disqualify a fake B) believe the actual cards to be real and C) dont care because they make money.

Thats not all.
Take a look at some of the Rookie Premieres that have already started popping up on the net. Adrian Peterson, a favorite target of these ass hats, has remained closer to fake than real, but Calvin Johnson is getting more closer to real than fake.
Notice the progression, things arent as obvious anymore. This situation is VERY bad, and it looks to be getting worse. Even the price has dropped considerably because no informed collector is willing to take a chance anymore. These used to sell for hundreds, now they can sell as low as 150.
The lesson is, if the autograph (compared side by side with a certified one) doesnt match up 100%, stay away. Look at tilt of the signature, start and stop points, and pen thickness. Also look at the rest of the sales, if there are a ton that are up, why believe that seller is the one guy who has sold 100 Peterson red inks in the last 30 days. Its just not feasible.
Remember, if you dont watch your own ass on these things, no one is going to do it for you. I am always happy to help with any questions you have.

This Card Is STILL 100% Fake

I posted earlier this week on the Peterson National Treasures Gold Auto that features an entire swatch with a Vikings head logo. The seller obviously has gotten quite a few emails because he is trying to pass this card off as real using an article that I FUCKING WROTE for Tuff Stuff. The auction was edited since my first post, and I am pissed that he is using my stuff to try to justify this abomination.

Here is my response.
Per NUMEROUS conversations I have had with ALL THREE FUCKING CARD COMPANIES, Peterson did not, I repeat, did not wear any of the old Vikings throwbacks at the premiere. He may have worn jerseys of other players in the new jersey style, but NO THROWBACKS. Based on that info, there is no possible way a swatch like this could be obtained, because the logo on the current jersey is much, much smaller than this one that covers the whole window.
This guy may not be the faker himself, but the card he is selling is fake. Next time he should maybe use proof from someone who isnt calling him out in the fucking first place.
