How Much More Do The Topps Giveaways Add?

When 2010 Topps baseball and 2010 Topps Football was released, both had a very unique element to them that had rarely even been attempted in any industry, let alone with a commodity as valuable with cards. Basically, Topps came up with the idea to give away a million cards in a program that was present across a few different products in baseball, and launch a sister program in football. Both programs were immensely popular and successful, if not only because of how many Topps cards were out there for them to buy and giveaway. Its the one competitive advantage that Topps has over any other company.

This year, they launched another giveaway program in the same vein as 2010, only this time, they added in exclusive die cut insert cards that could ONLY be won through the giveaway. They were extremely rare to “dig” up in the in game fun site, and have been selling very well from both series one and series two for baseball. Although it has yet to be formally announced, there will be superbowl ring die cut cards for the football giveaway that will be launching next week, and you can bet that they will also be popular.

Here are some ridiculous sales for the baseball versions:

Mickey Mantle Diamond Die Cut Insert – Cant believe this card is worth this much.

Babe Ruth Diamond Die Cut Insert

Derek Jeter Diamond Die Cut Insert

For football, however, it doesnt just stop at rare insert cards. For every 45 codes that a collector enters on the site, they will receive a Joe Namath autograph card via the giveaway. This is a HUGE prize, and you can bet that the price of the codes should jump as soon as it hits twitter. They are also giving away entries for a chance to win the card at 10 codes, so you can possibly see how much more valuable it will make each code.

As I have said before, I personally love this element of the set, especially because of the added value it brings to every jumbo pack. With something as awesome as a Joe Namath auto for all the collectors that buy about a case worth of cards, its a great bonus. The cases run about 500 bucks, and the Namath alone should bring in 100 plus. That’s only if you dont pull one of the diecut cards during the course of the giveaway to begin with!

  1. Thanks for the early info about the Namath auto. I was able to get 30 codes on eBay for $30, and add in the 20 codes I already have from two jumbo boxes, I’m excited that I’ll be able to get a nice looking card!

  2. Are you sure it’s a Namath auto for entering 45 codes? The way I’m reading the release is that you need to collect 45 unique items, which would make it like the diamond ring for baseball where it was easy to collect 59 rings, but needed one rare ring to get the compete set of 60 for the big prize.

I would think for football, there’s 44 common items to collect and one rare one. They couldn’t possibly have that many Namath auto’s lying around to give one for every 45 codes, could they?

  3. Looks like you’re right. Got my codes together and have been checking the website from time to time. Apparently now they changed it to say 45 “unique” codes. I’m assuming every code’s not going to give you a unique item, but i don’t know for sure.
