Panini Scares Me With Cards Like This…

If you have been around the hobby for a long time, there is no way you havent seen these cards:

Example #1

Or these cards:

Example #2

Well, this Ichiro card may be the next on the list.

*shiver*

After that look, I feel violated in the worst way.

Seriously though, I still have NO idea why people are excited for Panini baseball. If anything, they make it MORE obvious why Topps is on top, even with recent awful sets. If they get a license, can produce cards with logos, then we can talk again. But this? Might as well be blank cardboard.

Leaf has GREAT examples of how to do an unlicensed Ichiro card, and I sincerely hope that Panini doesnt think they will win over many collectors with this turd.

  1. “This uniform feels like I’m wearing nothing at all! nothing at all… nothing at all…”
    ~shudder~
    Stupid sexy Ichiro…

  2. Nothing worse than just seeing the city and not the team. Unlicensed cards are just crap. Although that says nothing about the lurid pose im seeing. I like the design but it looks like they just quit. A bunch of solid black block blotches. Not like I’ll be buying it so I suppose I shouldn’t care.

  4. Youre really pushing it here. Nothing wrong w the ichiro photo. thats the way “unlicensed” should be done.
In reality, the lack of a logo will have zero meaning anyway since few collectors place value on base cards.

Yrs & yrs of elite extra have backed up the fact that prospectors & collectors could care less if their prospect auto features the rookie w team logo.

Kudos to panini and may they give topps the badly needed kick in the ass, cause topps isn’t cutting it by themselves in baseball.

  5. Agreed. Panini has really made a lot of bland looking products this season. Granted, the lack of an MLB license hurts them, but you’d expect that they could at least make the card design more appealing to compensate for that.

The next appealing Donruss Elite Extra Baseball set (inserts and game used aside) will be the first.
