Wow – Worlds Longest Trading Card Becomes 36 Individual Signed Patch Cards

If you all remember the hype, Panini went around talking about how they had created the worlds longest trading card. Of course, the card in question was packed out as a redemption in 2011 National Treasures and resulted in one of the biggest punchlines of the whole card season. It was a complete joke of a card, and obviously the guy who won it felt similarly about it.

The cards that compose the final product were basically signed patches with borders put around them, and then held together with a flimsy piece of something small. It wasnt like this was a card signed by 36 players, it was already about as close as it could be to 36 individual cards.

In the time since the card was redeemed, the seller (rightfully so) had the card cut so that each of the signed patches was now its own card, and put each of them up on eBay. Because the card was such a visual disaster and a display case’s worst nightmare, this is something I had wondered if it would happen.

This year, I sincerely hope that Panini isnt stupid enough to try shenanigans like this again, and if they do, find a way that isnt some ridiculous cop out like this was. Some of the auctions for the cut up card have been taken down, but it may just be collectors trying to buy up a unique card for their PC. I understand every collector wants cards exactly the way they came, but what if the way they came sucks? This is much better, even though the final result is still pretty awful. That’s on Panini though.

  1. It’ll be even more hilarious if one person buys them all and scotch-tapes them back together again.

  2. What is really sad about all this is that you know those sigs are going to bleed out over time and be unreadable. Wtf would anyone buy this.

  3. I give Panini credit for trying to think outside the box but the cards should have been individual to begin with and the redemption should have been for a 36 card set.
